In the morning let us prepare for the new day with the words of the New Testament and in the evening let us reflect on how God moves in the lives of his people.

Morning Reading from the New Testament: Luke 12: 35-59

Jesus said, “Even the hairs of your head are numbered. Sell your possessions. Be ready for the Son of Man. I came to bring division.”

Evening Reading from the Old Testament: 1 Samuel 4-6

The Israelites were defeated by the Philistines and Eli’s sons were killed. When Eli heard that the ark had been captured, he died.

The Philistines put the ark in their temple. Their god fell on his face before it. The city became cursed so they sent the ark away.

The Philistines sent the ark away with guilt offerings. The people of Beth Shemesh found it and rejoiced but some were struck down.
