A Note from our Pastor:
“May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;”
Ephesians 3:18
Good Morning Dearly Beloved,
In the prior verse, the Apostle prays that the saints reading this verse might be rooted and grounded in love, which is of God. He continues with the same thought in verse eighteen, so although not written directly, the focus is on the love of God.
The ultimate point the Apostle is driving at in this verse is an understanding, as limited as it might be, of the love God has for his people. However, in order to reach that point it is necessary to address the method by which true understanding can happen. The method for reaching this comprehension is to do so with other believers.
As a believer you can examine your own life and certainly see the love of God in many different ways. You can see it as he lifted you up when you were in the valleys or when he walked beside you in difficult times. You can see the love of God both in your eternal salvation as well as in the day-to-day providence of God. But as with anything, if we only examine the impact to us directly we miss the larger view. The Apostle says we should consider the love of God with all the saints. In other words, we should walk with a group of believers and see the love of God in their lives. This should be a multi-generational group and we should not miss that just because the older or younger member’s lives look different that God’s love is manifest in their walk.
In addition to walking with that immediate group of believers we should also attempt to see believers in other areas, in different cultures, in different time periods, and with different values. We should work to see how the love of God is manifest in their lives. We should work to understand the ways in which other believers receive the love of God, share the love of God, and manifest the love of God to the world around them.
As we attempt to walk with other believers we will reach a greater sense of the love of God. We will begin to understand better that in its length the love of God reaches from eternity to eternity. In its breadth it reaches to every elect of God — no matter time, place, culture, race, etc. In its depth it reaches to the lowest of estates – however we define this. And in its height it brings us out of the pit of despair and exalts us with God. In this lifetime we can never fully understand what is the love of God, but could there be a better endeavor to engage in?
Our Prayers are with you daily,
Brother Jeremiah
