A note from the Pastor’s desk:

“For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

Colossians 2:5

Good Morning Dearly Beloved,

As we continue our study this week, the next text to examine is Colossians 2:5. This verse continues the thought introduced in the prior verse. In examining this verse, I want us to consider both the immediate meaning of the verse, between the Apostle Paul and the saints at Colossae and the larger meaning for the New Testament church in all ages.

The direct meaning of this verse was based on the struggle the Apostle felt at being imprisoned. He was not able to travel to Colossae and other groups of believers. He wanted to be present to strengthen them. His guidance of their spiritual journey was still taking place but only through letters and other ministers.

This verse indicates that he was receiving reports from other ministers regarding the faith of these saints. He tells them he is aware of the steadfastness of their faith in Jesus Christ. And in this verse, he tells them particularly, that he is connected to them in the spirit. While not being able to be physically together, the spirit through the Holy Spirit, binds together fellow believers in Christ.

This concept is an important, larger, theological concept. The scriptures often refer to the “Kingdom of God.” That term is best understood to be all of the regenerate, elect of God across all of the earth. There is also a more visible aspect of the “Kingdom of God” which is made up of active believers in Jesus Christ. However, this is not a physical kingdom.

The more visible aspect of the “Kingdom of God” on this earth is not defined by physical presence. The structures, locations, or any other natural aspect do not define it. It is not defined by language, nationality, or country. Rather, it is a spiritual kingdom defined by a desire to worship Jesus Christ and live his truth. In that way, all of those in the “Kingdom of God” are together in the same way the Apostle was with those in Colossae while he was imprisoned.

Our Prayers are with you daily,

Brother Jeremiah
