A note from our Pastor:
“In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Colossians 2:3
Good Morning Dearly Beloved,
Our study verse for this week concludes a thought started in verse one of this chapter. The Apostle Paul describes the conflict within him due to his imprisonment. At the same time, he points the saints to Jesus Christ. He calls on them to walk in faith and love. He desires them to have the comfort of Jesus Christ whether he can be present with them or not.
In this verse, the Apostle is encouraging a specific behavior in the disciples. While this writing was directed to those believers in Colossae and Laodicea it is an instruction for all disciples. The Apostle is instructing the disciples to focus on learning more and more about Jesus Christ. He is reminding them that their knowledge has only scratched the surface of understanding.
Remember, the disciples in the day of the Apostles did not have the New Testament. Their study required a much different approach, but was nonetheless important. Today, disciples have access to the New Testament, writings on scripture, millions of hours of sermons, and so much more. The instruction looks different, but the subject is the same. Jesus, in whom, are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
The treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden in Christ fall into more categories than we can detail in this study, but let us consider just a few of them. First, Jesus Christ is equal with God, and being equal with God has all knowledge, understanding, and wisdom about everything past, present, and future. This is a truth that cannot be challenged.
However, let us consider some other ways of understanding this verse. In his incarnate form, Jesus experienced everything his disciples would experience. In doing so, he responded perfectly every time. Hidden in Christ is empathy for the experience and an answer for how to respond. In his role as our mediator, he has a perfect understanding of the struggles we have in this life but also of the care God the Father provides for his people. This is a treasure to search for and understand. In just these two examples we have a lifetime, as disciples, to learn more about Christ.
Our Prayers are with you daily,
Brother Jeremiah
