A note from our Pastor:
“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”
1 Timothy 6:7
Good Morning Dearly Beloved,
The Apostle Paul’s writings are known for their complex theological ideas. The already nuanced ideas are made more difficult by the lengthy sentences and parenthetical phrases. But our study verse this week is the exact opposite of that common approach. The statement studied this week is straightforward and expressed in simple terms.
On the surface, the Apostle makes a simple statement. When you were born you did not come into this life with any material possessions. When you die you will take no material possessions with you. This sentiment is often expressed even today. At its most basic level, it is an easily comprehensible truth.
Remember from the prior verse the overall subject is the contentment gained from godliness. This statement is part of a larger teaching that will continue in subsequent verses. This verse points back to the false teachers who were using the preaching of the gospel to gain material wealth. The Apostle is telling Timothy and his followers to preach and learn the gospel of Jesus Christ because material wealth is not promised and has a limited timeframe of impact.
In contrast, when the child of God is born they also have no knowledge of the things of God. The knowledge of the things of God is gained along the pathway of life. By following the Holy Spirit, one develops knowledge of the peace that is Jesus Christ. Listening to ministers provides an understanding of the hope found in Him. Learning from others reveals the joy and love He embodies. This gain, in contrast to material possessions, is stable no matter the circumstances of life. Furthermore, when this life is over, it is not the absence of the possession, but the fulfillment of it that marks the transition.
Our Prayers are with you daily,
Brother Jeremiah
